THE FOLLOWING IS BASED ON AN ENTRY FROM THE JOURNAL OF MR. JEFFREY ALAN WOODS, A STUDENT OF ST. JOHN'S MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

It all started out just like it had always started out.

I wasn't expecting anything out of the usual to happen...but, it happened anyway. I'll try to explain what I am talking about.

It seemed like a normal day, as always, at St. John's Middle School. Me and all of my classmates, Ben, Jane, Toby and his sister, Lyra, Jack, Timmy, Brian, Sally, Kate, Nina, Sammy and of course, my next-door neighbor friends, Robin and Mary were all there preparing for another day in school. We all gathered into Mrs. Caldwell's classroom, as always. But...as the day wore on...and I tried as much as I could to get through the day, I began to feel a little tired. Mrs. Caldwell and my friend, Robin both asked me how I was feeling at the moment. I had to tell them both about how I felt last night. So, I told them about my most recent nightmare.

Right there and then, everyone gathered around to hear what I had to say. I tried as much as I could to explain everything about my nightmare. The one I had last night. The nightmare that was making me miserable.

This is the dream that I had last night...

-----MY NIGHTMARE-----

The first thing that I remember in my dream was waking up in the middle of the night to go use the bathroom. Mommy was still sleeping while I went. After I had finished going, I went back to my bedroom to return to sleep. But...when I had left the bathroom...that is when I saw something standing RIGHT in front of me. I...I didn't know what it was. It was an inky-black shadow-like creature that had glowing, blood-red eyes that were staring right at me. Then, it reached out for me with it's gnarled, claw-like hands. I rand towards my mom's bedroom with a fright. I woke her up and told her what was wrong. When she woke up, that thing that I told her about was now at the end of mommy's bed. She screamed when she saw it. Without hesitation, though, I quickly grabbed the flashlight that was on the floor at my feet and shone the light right into the eyes of the monster. The thing let out an horrifying roar as it covered it's eyes from the burst of light and ran back down the hallway, leaping out of the window on the opposite side of the hall. Mom and I were both breathing very heavily when we had seen what we wished we hadn't seen. The next thing I remember was saying, " W-What was that thing?! ", as the monster had now piqued at our curiosity and we wanted to find out why the monster had decided to attack us.

I...I don't know why...but it's what we did.
